📋 Article Submission Workflow

Complete guide for contributors and administrators

For Contributors

Step 1: Prepare Your Article

Before submitting, ensure you have:

  • Article text written and proofread
  • Images prepared (if any) with proper licensing
  • Source information (for translations)
  • Author biography (optional)

Step 2: Upload Images (If Needed)

  1. Go to Special:Upload
  2. Follow naming convention: Category-Topic-Description.jpg
  3. Add description and categories
  4. Click "Upload file"

Step 3: Submit Your Article

  1. Go to Contributor_Guide
  2. Choose Simple Format or Enhanced Format
  3. Fill out the form:
    • Display Title: Malayalam title (പ്രധാന തലക്കെട്ട്)
    • Page Name: English with hyphens (Climate-Change-Kerala)
    • Author: Your name or translator name
    • Original Author: (Only for translations)
    • Content: Your article text
    • Images: Select uploaded images
    • Source Attribution: (Only for translations)
  4. Click Preview to check formatting
  5. Click Submit Article

Step 4: Wait for Review

  • Your article goes to Draft:Submissions/ namespace
  • Article is NOT PUBLIC yet
  • Administrators will review within 1-3 days
  • You'll be notified when published
  • Check Special:Watchlist to monitor your article

Detailed Admin Steps

Step 1: Review Submissions

  1. Go to Project:Admin_Dashboard
  2. Check Pending Submissions section
  3. Click article title to read full content
  4. Review using checklist:
Check Item What to Look For Action if Issue
Content Quality Grammar, clarity, coherence Edit directly or return to author
Copyright Original or proper attribution Verify sources, check licensing
Images Proper licensing, relevant Upload new images or request from author
Naming Follows convention Rename if needed
Category Appropriate selection Change category if needed
Formatting Proper structure, readability Fix formatting issues

Step 2: Enhance Article

Click ✏️ Edit to enhance:

  • Add Quality Images:
    • Upload relevant images if missing
    • Ensure proper captions
    • Check image placement
  • Add Highlights/Sidebars (for Enhanced articles):
    • Key Points (left sidebar): Main takeaways
    • Highlights (right sidebar): Important facts/quotes
  • Format Content:
    • Break long paragraphs
    • Add subheadings if needed
    • Improve readability
  • Verify Translations:
    • Check original author credit
    • Verify source attribution
    • Ensure permission note is present

Step 3: Stage or Publish

Decision Point: Stage or Publish?

Option A: Stage in Draft (Recommended for complex articles)

  1. Click MoreMove
  2. New title: Draft:Article/Article-Name
  3. Check ☑ "Leave a redirect"
  4. Reason: "Moving to draft for enhancement"
  5. Continue editing with full enhanced features
  6. Publish to main when perfected

Option B: Publish Immediately (For ready articles)

  1. Click MoreMove
  2. New title: Article-Name (no prefix)
  3. Uncheck ☐ "Leave a redirect"
  4. Reason: "Publishing article"
  5. Article is immediately PUBLIC

Step 4: Post-Publication

After publishing:

  • Notify Contributor: Send thank you message with published link
  • Verify Display: Check article displays correctly on public site
  • Monitor: Add to watchlist for vandalism monitoring
  • Promote: Share on social media if notable
  • Update Lists: Ensure article appears in relevant category pages

Quality Control Checklist

Before publishing any article, verify:

Content

☐ Article is well-written and clear
☐ Facts are accurate and verifiable
☐ No plagiarism or copyright violations
☐ Appropriate length and depth
☐ Neutral point of view (where applicable)

Technical

☐ Page name follows convention
☐ Display title in correct Malayalam
☐ Proper category assignment
☐ All images properly licensed
☐ Links work correctly
☐ No formatting errors

For Translations

☐ Original author credited in metadata
☐ Translator name in "Author" field
☐ Source publication named
☐ Link to original article provided
☐ Permission note included
☐ Translation type specified

Attribution

☐ Author/translator bio present
☐ Proper categorization by author
☐ Date is correct

Common Issues & Solutions

Issue Solution
Page name has spaces Move to name with hyphens: Climate-Change-Kerala
Malayalam in file name Move to English name with hyphens
Missing original author (translation) Edit form, add to OriginalAuthor field
Poor image quality Upload better image, update article
Wrong category Edit article, change Category field
No source attribution (translation) Edit form, fill Source Attribution section
Duplicate article Check if similar article exists, merge if needed
Copyright concern Contact contributor, verify permissions, or reject

Rejection Guidelines

Articles may be rejected if:

  • Copyright Violation: Copied content without permission
  • Poor Quality: Incoherent, filled with errors
  • Inappropriate Content: Violates community standards
  • Spam/Promotional: Pure advertising
  • Duplicate: Identical to existing article

How to Reject:

  1. Contact contributor explaining issue
  2. Give opportunity to revise if fixable
  3. If unfixable, delete from Draft:Submissions/
  4. Document reason in deletion log
