1.1 Purpose
The System Administrator's Manual has been prepared to assist present and future administrators in maintaining, protecting, and developing the Abhiprayavedi publishing platform. It provides a structured understanding of the platform, explains the responsibilities of system administration, and documents the knowledge required to ensure the platform remains reliable, secure, and sustainable.
This manual is intended to complement the Documentation Philosophy and the other documents within the Abhiprayavedi Documentation Library. Together, these documents preserve both the technical knowledge and the architectural reasoning necessary for the platform's continued evolution.
1.2 The Role of the System Administrator
The responsibility of a system administrator extends beyond keeping servers operational or resolving technical issues. A system administrator is the custodian of the platform's integrity, stability, security, and continuity.
Every configuration change, software update, security decision, and maintenance activity should be undertaken with an understanding of its long-term implications. Administrative decisions should preserve the architectural principles of the platform while enabling its continued growth.
The objective is not merely to maintain the current system, but to ensure that future administrators inherit a platform that is understandable, dependable, and well documented.
1.3 A Living Document
Technology evolves continuously. Software versions change, security practices improve, and editorial requirements develop over time. Consequently, this manual should be regarded as a living document.
Whenever significant changes are introduced to the platform, the corresponding documentation should be reviewed and updated so that the manual continues to reflect the actual state of the system.
